MASTER BUILDERS AWARD

HORIZON HABITATS WINS MAJOR MASTER BUILDERS AWARD

Horizon Habitats has won a Master Builders Association (MBA) of NSW Excellence in Housing Award in the Contract Houses – $5 Million to $7 Million category.

The winning entry is a stunning five bedroom, six bathroom, light-filled home in Vaucluse.

David Moses, Horizon Habitats Managing Director said “It’s an honour to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the Horizon Habitats team. We love building beautiful houses for our clients and their families.”

Homeowner Silvi Destro said Horizon Habitats was instrumental in helping the family realise their dream home.

“Building a house of course has its stressful moments – it was all new to us, particularly understanding how building and construction works. The more we heard about other people’s experiences with different builders, the luckier we felt to be working with Horizon Habitats,” Silvi said.

“David and the team were just amazing – they were always a step ahead of us.”

Luxury internal finishes include a travertine feature wall, timber floors and a combination of natural stone and handmade tile slabs. The stone finishes required a four-month lead time along with great care taken in application to protect them from damage.

The residence is operated through Dynalite Smart Home – a complete home automation system which enables the user to efficiently control settings including energy usage, security and lighting.

Horizon Habitats were thoughtful and methodical in the building process, enabling them to complete the build in a very timely manner. The construction process was particularly challenging as the home was built on an excavated site, and required some shoring and stabilisation works.

The result combines the designs of architects Mackenzie Pronk, and Kaintoch, and interior designer Arent & Pyke, who worked with Horizon Habitats at different stages.

Kaintoch architect Christian Campoy said Horizon Habitats’ proactive approach was the driving force behind exceeding client expectations.

“Their attention to detail and construction finishes are matched with their ability to manage time and scheduling to ensure a smooth transition between all phases of the build,” Christian said.

“We truly enjoyed the process of working with the Horizon Habitats team – they have the integrity, professionalism and experience we needed to produce such a high quality building.”

Horizon Habitats regularly collaborates with leading Australian architects to ensure homeowners are receiving both a well-built and well-designed home.

“We really respect the design process and it was an absolute pleasure collaborating with everyone involved. We’re committed to delivering the highest quality, year in and year out, for our valued clients,” David said.

The Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Housing Awards is a highly anticipated event showcasing the very best in residential building, high quality workmanship and innovation.

Horizon Habitats have won nine MBA awards in the last seven years, including being named 2014 Young Builder of the Year.

Massive congratulations to Alexis Pryor on winning the MBA NSW Apprentice of the Year award this weekend for 2nd year apprentice carpentry. 29 year old Alex received the award at the MBA NSW Excellence in Constructions Awards on Saturday night. Alex joined HH two years ago as a mature-aged apprentice, following a distinguished 7-year career in the elite 2 Commando Regiment of the Australian Army. After serving around the world including 3 tours of Afghanistan, as well as Iraq, East Timor, & Fiji, Alex decided to have a change in careers. Enrolling himself in to both Carpentry and building courses at the same time, he then started looking for an apprenticeship. Many builders did not want someone so old as an apprentice, but we saw his age, life experience, ability to make decisions under pressure as an asset. We have not looked back since, and Alex has become an important member of our team! We entered several of our apprentices in this most prestigious of awards this year. 19 year old Zac Allen was also a runner-up in his category. Well done Zac!

Two years ago, when Janine and Tony Adams decided to buy a 50s-style duplex in Sydney's eastern suburbs, they were so set on demolishing the building and just replacing it with their dream home that they didn't bother even inspecting its downstairs rooms. The former finance executives had lived in several homes in the area, as well as overseas in New York, and were no strangers to building projects and renovations. Wanting additional room, they had decided to sell their Bellevue Hill home and find something that would better accommodate them and their two teenage children.
