David is a genuine nice guy. In addition to that he runs a brilliant building company with a fantastic culture. Employing and controlling some sixty people all with a "can do" attitude is no mean feat. The house the guys built for us is beautiful & a joy to live in. Whilst the process of getting there was stressful, in my opinion far less so than if we had used a different builder. Hopefully my family will be in our new home for the next 20 years, but if we build again I would use David and his team - no risk. To whom it may concern,

I decided to interview David Moses in September 2009 as I had watched Horizon Habitats progress in Sydney’s eastern suburbs during the previous two years and liked their work. He was also recommended by my architect, with whom I had just completed a successful project. I was struck by his energy and enthusiasm. More relevantly, he immediately grasped the pros and cons of the proposed building site we were discussing and could speak intelligently thereto, rather than just giving a generic marketing pitch. The project was a total renovation/transformation of two ugly 1980 semi’s in Edgecliff into two quality modern terraces with a budget of about $2 million.

David immediately understood that I intended to micro-manage the project, living 80 metres away and able to be onsite all the time. He also appreciated that I would be hard to please, having completed six similar projects. Instead of hoping he could just railroad the job once appointed, he sensibly chose a foreman who was both highly experienced and capable of being comfortable with the situation. He also skillfully managed the vagaries of intermediating between client and architect. As it was a cost plus contract, David was spared the difficulties of very intense budget keeping, but nonetheless implementation was exceptionally well thought out and executed.

David’s huge success with Horizon Habitats has been his focus on important issues. He is rigorous about completion. If, as usually happens, problems arise in execution, David is immediately proactive. The implicit attitude of "let’s solve it together sensibly" rather than "you figure it out," means that he keeps control of a project rather than letting it drift. Consequently, his projects complete to a reasonable timeframe and his administration follows suit.

David’s staff are, without exception, competent, motivated and fiercely loyal. His subcontractors are also interested delivering good quality service/product as they value their relationship with Horizon Habitats.

David has branded his projects not only with big banners but with managerial consistency. I visited five other Horizon Habitats sites during my own project – it was mesmerizing – they were run exactly the same way as my site. Everyone working on them was just as committed and involved.

David has also been mindful of the need to participate in the community. Simple things like sponsoring the local football club are highly relevant in a growing society where building is the epitome of progress.

I am always hopeful that the 'honeymoon' period with a builder will last the project. Working with David is the only time I have felt nirvana approach.

Our own experiences over the past 25 years of being associated with the Building Industry has taught us that there are two main considerations (other than price) when selecting the right builder. They are 'The Builder'... and, 'The Subcontractors'.

The builder needs to be reputable and have the management skills to keep the project running smoothly, on time and on budget.

The quality of the end product, however, is dependant upon the subcontractors that are used. It's important that there is a long-standing relationship between the builder and subcontractor so that they understand the quality and detail that is required of them.

After careful consideration, we selected Horizon Habitats to construct our new home. Normally un-heard-of in this industry, the job was completed on time, and on budget. We were kept informed as to how much we had spent to date, and how much it was estimated we still needed to spend with each trade.

Without exception we were more than happy with each of the trades and very happy with the end product.

Certainly, should we ever decide to build again, we'd like Horizon Habitats to be our builder.

When we decided on Horizon to do our fairly extensive renovation, it was for 2 main reasons. Firstly, based on recommendations, we were confident that we’d be in good hands in terms of a job well done. Secondly, when we first met the Horizon team, we sensed we’d be able to have an open and positive communication, something critically important. Excellent workmanship aside, this communication was the key to our very successful renovation. Throughout the project, no matter the question or concern, we were listened to and responded to right away. This was the case across the board – from management to the site manager to each of the skilled tradespeople contracted by Horizon. We are sure that this contributed to our renovation being completed on time and on budget. Our renovation was completed 3 years ago and with time being the true test of quality, we continue to be extremely pleased.

We used Horizon Habitats to renovate our weatherboard 2 story house and were extremely happy with the result.

Initially we put the job out to tender based on architect plans but it became evident that we needed to significantly modify the plans to stay within our cost expectations. Whilst Horizon was not the cheapest quote but they impressed us with their ability to suggest modifications and gave us a level of comfort that the project could move forward and be developed as we went along.

The project manager/foreman assigned to our redevelopment was very thorough and assiduous in ensure a quality job was done at all stage of the construction. He was present through-out the job, always being on-site which helped with the efficincy and speed of the project.When faced with unexpected construction difficulties or needing to merge our requirements with the practical constructions difficulties both he and Huw were involved, thorough and came up with practical solutions. At all times they ensured that a quality job was done and that we were involved in decisions, options and choices impacting cost and quality.

The Horizon staff were always professional and considerate to us and our neighbours and importantly they were always on-site. They were never diverted to other jobs. Consequently the project was completed within the expected timeframe.

The renovations involved landscaping as well as construction work and we are delighted with the result which exceeded our expectations of what could be achieved.

I would strongly recommend Horizon Habitats to potential clients as a thorough, honest and a quality driven building firm.

We had heard that doing a major renovation to one’s home is a very stressful experience. Having done it and lived to tell the tale – we can vouch for this. Our saving grace was our builder, David Moses, and the support provided by the Horizon Habitats Team. The reliability, professionalism and integrity displayed by the foreman and his team was outstanding.

Work was completed in time, at the cost and in accordance with the deal we had negotiated. A high standard and quality of workmanship was maintained throughout the project. The Horizon Habitats Team and subcontractors were courteous and displayed consideration for our home and our neighbours in carrying out their job.

We are delighted with the outcome and have benefited from the ongoing support from Horizon Habitats and their long standing relationship with their subcontractors. It is now 18 months since we completed our renovation and the follow up, support and after sales service has been excellent. We cannot recommend Horizon Habitats highly enough.
